The capping station serves as a ''resting chair'' for the printhead. When the printhead does not print, it sits on top of the capping station. The capping station then raises and creates a seal around the nozzles area. This keeps the ink from getting dry fast while the printer remains idle (DTG/DTF ink is water-based).
The capping station is also crucial for a successful Head Cleaning process. While the seal is maintained, the part (which contains a pump) is pulling ink through the nozzles and sends it to the waste tank.
The capping station is a consumable part that needs to be maintained meticulously. The process is simple and requires 2 minutes at the end of the printing day. It needs to be cleaned thoroughly and moisturized - if necessary.
